Silver Corps | NYC Department for the Aging (NYC Aging)

1. How it Works

Silver Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program operated through NYC Aging. It provides older adults with volunteer assignments at a partner organization. Participants are connected to training and/or credentialing to secure employment.

  • Community service assignment – Commit to volunteering at least 15 hours a week in a nonprofit or government agency to gain valuable experience, network with professionals, and contribute to your local community.
  • Foundational workshops – Get job readiness training, enhanced financial literacy, and digital skills to prepare for success in today’s workforce.
  • Training and/or credentialing program: Enroll in training and credentialing classes based on your career goals and skills.
  • Finding work – Get job coaching and support to secure employment.
  • Job retention: Post-employment support services are provided to ensure successful job retention.
  • Requires proof of identity, income, where you live, and eligibility to work.

2. Determine your eligibility

You’re eligible for Silver Corps if you:

  • are at least 55 years of age
  • are an NYC resident
  • are currently unemployed or underemployed
  • commit to volunteering a minimum of 15 hours per week in a nonprofit or government agency
  • are willing to participate in skills training and specialized training and/or credentialing programs
  • have income at or below these levels to qualify for a volunteer stipend and travel reimbursement:
