One Shot Deal
NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA)
1. How it Works
The One Shot Deal provides financial assistance to people who cannot afford an expense. This is usually, but not always, due to an unexpected event or situation. It is commonly used to help pay for rent to prevent or delay an eviction.
Emergency assistance can help those facing situations including but not limited to:
Eviction or dispossess
Utility disconnection or pending shut off
Circumstances that affect the health and safety of the individual or family
Applicants must have the ability to pay the related expense moving forward, if it is a recurring expense.
Most recipients will have to pay back some of the money for rent or utility arrears. This may not be the case if you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
You may apply if you’ve received this in the past. If you did not pay back a previous grant, this will affect your eligibility for a new one.
HRA may take up to 30 days to make a decision. When possible, HRA will make a determination sooner and in time to stop the emergency from happening.
You must be a US citizen or have satisfactory immigration status to receive aid.
