How it works

Reduced MTA fares are available for anyone 65+ or with a qualifying disability.

Express buses $3.50 All times except 6-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m. on weekdays

Metro-North Railroad Up to 50% off peak fare All times except 6-10 a.m. weekdays (toward NYC)

 


Eligibility requirements

You qualify if you’re 65 or older OR have a disability that affects your ability to use public transportation.

Disabilities that typically qualify include:

  • Blindness or vision loss
  • Deafness or hearing loss
  • Mobility issues (difficulty walking, using stairs, or standing)
  • Intellectual or cognitive disabilities
  • Serious mental illness
  • Physical disabilities

Required documents

You will need one of these forms of ID to apply:

  • Valid driver’s license (or legal equivalent) from any state
  • Valid passport from any country
  • IDNYC
  • Birth certificate + photo ID
  • Medicare card + photo ID
  • Valid state photo ID

How to apply

Apply by mail

  1. Download and complete an application
  2. Include a passport-style photo
  3. Include a copy of a valid ID as proof of age
  4. For riders with disabilities, include documentation of a qualifying disability
  5. Mail your application and documents to:

If you’re 65 or older, you can sign up in person and get your new Reduced-Fare OMNY card the same day. If you have a disability, you can get in-person, individualized assistance.
