Tax credit for families with children

Child Tax Credit (CTC) | Internal Revenue Service (IRS), NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP)

1. How it Works

When filing taxes for 2023, families can claim this tax credit worth up to $2,000 for each qualifying child under 17 years old.

  • File your 2023 tax return by April 15, 2024 to claim this credit.
  • Your family can be eligible even if you did not earn income or owe any income taxes. However, your child needs to have a Social Security Number.
  • The credit does not count as income and will not affect your eligibility for public benefits.
